Blogging For Free
Let me start by saying that I do not recommend bloggin for free at least not with the providers that I will explain below (Blogger & WordPress), the main reason for that is that you don’t own your blog, they do and they can shut it down anytime. They can shut it down either by mistake, because someone complained, due to spam or whatever other reason. On top of that you have to share their domain name, for example if you are using blogger your Blog url will look something like this ” donothingmoney.blogspot.com” so you are basically building their business and not yours.
With that small introduction let me get started and teach how to start blogging for free in just few minutes. By July 2011 there were already 164,000,000 blogs created and that numbers is increasing very fast, the reason is obvious. No matter what you are going to use your blog for, it is definitely a great way to share your stuff with others.
Blogger VS WordPress
The advantage of having a Free blog is exactly that, that it is FREE and it is also easy to set up.
The two biggest Blog services out there are Blogger & WordPress, so if you are just starting you will have to choose between one of the two, here is my opinion and suggestion for which one to go for.
*Note : If you want to go big with your blog and really focus on it, you should always go for Self-hosted (Paid) blogs, I will write about this soon.
1 – Blogger
Blogger is owned by Google and is the best choice for beginners or people who are not very good with computer stuff and don’t want to learn any. Those famous .blogspot.com blogs that you see around are all from Blogger and they are extremely easy to set up.
You can add widgets and custom codes easily and everything is rookie friendly and dumb proof.
2 – WordPress
WordPress in my opinion is the best choice but it is a bit harder to handle, so if you are the computer guy then this is the best choice for you. Also if you are looking to learn while you blog then WordPress is the best option as often time you will have to read and work to get things done the way you want, while with Blogger all it takes is few clicks to get what you want.
Step by Step Instructions
These are so easy to set up that these instructions are useless but I will still write them anyways as some people might make use of them.
By following these steps you will be able to set up a Blog for FREE using either Blogger or WordPress in just few minutes.
Step 1 – Go to Blogger.com
Step 2 – If you have a Google Account (Gmail, Adsense, Adwords, Analytic or any other Google Service), you simply need to Sign In, if not click on Sign Up and fill up the forms.
Step 3 – Once you sign in / sign up on Blogger.com, click on “Create Your Blog Now”.
Step 4 – That’s all, you will be simply asked for your Blog Title (ex. DoNothingMoney Blog), your Blog URL (ex. http://donothingmoney.blogspot.com) and then to choose your Template.
As soon as you finish those simple steps you will be able to start posting right away.
Step 1 – Go to WordPress.com
Step 2 – Fill up the form, the first question is your Blog URL (ex. http://donothingmoney.wordpress.com), the name, email, username, etc and click on “Create Blog”
Step 3 – To finish your registration check your email inbox and look for WordPress confirmation email, there click on “Activate Blog”.
Step 4 – You will automatically be redirected to your blog backoffice and you can start posting right away.
Pretty simple, huh? 😎
As you can see creating your own blog for free is really easy and simple and it only takes few minutes, in fact I created two free blogs just now to write the above instructions.
If you are going to work online part time or full time having your own website is highly recommended and a blog is the best choice because it is simply too easy to set up.
This will be the only post about Blogging for FREE and Blogger, the rest will be focused on WordPress and your own Hosting which is the best option in my opinion.
